What Impact Does a Lack of Sleep Have?
Watch the video to explore the impacts that a lack of sleep can have on your physical and mental wellbeing.
One of the six primary workplace stress risk factors is the relationships you have with people at work. In this video, we will explore what you can do when you feel your workplace relationships are strained or not working . . .
The Health and Safety Executive has identified six primary workplace stressors. These are: the demands you face, the amount of control you feel, the amount of support you receive, your relationships at work, your role and how you well you understand it, and how change is communicated and led.
In this video we will explore what you can do when you feel your workplace relationships are strained or not working.
Try these tips:
Tip 1) Consider if there are specific people you have a poor relationship with or specific actions that cause the relationship to break down. If so, identify them and either address them with the individual or individuals concerned.
Tip 2) Reflect on why the relationship with this person(s) is strained. Often this is because the person is different to you and/or have different values. What can you do to try and see their point of view and acknowledge them, or address your differences?
Tip 3) Ask for support from your line manager or a trusted colleague if you are unsure what to do.
Tip 4) Honestly reflect and recognise when it may be your behaviour that is causing an issue. Don't be afraid to ask others for perspective and feedback.
Tip 5) Ask what you could do differently to change the situation – remember, if you want others to change, it is likely that you will need to change too.
Tip 6) Consider if training or development around managing people might help. For example, if you are a leader, you could begin by taking the 'Introduction to Coaching' course, which you can find on your my courses page.
You can explore how to manage other risk factors of workplace stress in other videos in this series, and you can explore more strategies for managing stress in the 'stress management' course which you can access at any time from the 'My Courses' page.
